URGENT APPEAL FOR FUNDS
We are currently seeking funds to provide counselling support and wellbeing workshops to women and children from Asian, African and Middle Eastern communities who are escaping domestic violence in Australia.
The COVID-19 situation has exacerbated domestic violence and abuse within such families – women and children are living under crippling stress and the fear of death. During the lockdown itself, more than 400 counselling sessions have been provided to help women with the process of rebuilding their lives. As these women build up their self-esteem, they not only live a life of dignity themselves but they also become role models for their children. Although realising that they are responsible for what happens next is both frightening and exciting for these women, they learn to own their lives as no one else will. Our task in supporting such victims to become survivors has been monumental, especially when they have minor children under their care.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence actually liberates others.
– Marianne Williamson
Taking person-centred modality as the baseline, it is layered as needed with narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed therapy, mindful-based therapy, solution-focussed therapy and CBT – amongst other ones. In a safe and supportive environment, they are able to explore their thoughts, feelings and emotions completely free of judgment.
Kindly help us raise some funds so that Shakti’s counselling services can continue to assist in ending violence against women and children.
