Shakti specialises in culturally safe domestic/family violence prevention, early intervention, and crisis support for and by Women of Colour. We advocate to end culturally-sanctioned abusive practices that migrant and refugee women from Asian, African and Middle Eastern backgrounds experience. Examples include forced marriage, child and under-aged marriage, dowry-related abuse and violence, gender-based genital mutilation, and threats of honour-based murder. We believe in the paramountcy of women’s and children’s rights to safety and justice locally, nationally, and internationally
